The departure date for our annual four week trip to Desolation Sound was coming up fast and we, but more importantly, the boat, was not ready. As in, really really not ready. The boom was not attached to the boat, the main and jib were at the sail loft, the inside was more taken apart than put together, and no provisions planning had been done. The lofty list of to-dos before departure was long so we took it down to absolute needs. Greg and I took many hours on the side of our normal work to take care of those needs and in the last week Ned came down one evening to help get the boom back on the new gooseneck and the mainsail loaded. About a month prior we thought replacing some of the worn out plastic washers and checking out the gooseneck pins was a good idea and found a big crack on the side that is inside the boom (see more on that in projects). Good to find but wished it wasn’t so close to our departure date.

Shiny and new with a much heavier plate on the bottom.

We did manage to get off the dock when we wanted to and headed north out of the Salish Sea early in the morning with my parents and BOTH cats on board. Neighbors who were involved in the great cat search last year asked how we were going to make sure Cleo was on board, we thought that Griffin should be in charge. He was up early to make sure both cats were where they were supposed to be and have a departure donut which seems to now be a tradition.

Here’s where I’m going to switch things up and not edit down and retype what I’ve written in my log about every day adventures. This year, I’m just posting photos of what I wrote. Last year I burned out before finishing so this year photos will suffice to preserve the paper journal. I’ll add captions to lots of the photos that you can read if you click on them to open.

Goodbye summer cruise!
